Dozens of free tools out there to tweak the context menu (right-click) in Windows operating system by adding new options or removing unwanted program entries. One of the downsides of all those tools is that they can’t add new options to the context menu as hidden options that appear only when you hold down the Shift key while right-clicking on an item.

Those who would like to add new options to the context menu without cluttering the context menu can now use a free tool developed and released by our friend at WinAero to add new commands to the context menu that appear only when you press the Shift key, and also file type specific entries.

Context Menu Tuner is a new tool designed to tweak the desktop, file, and folder context menus in Windows operating system.

Context Menu Tuner is a standalone utility, which means that you can run this without having to install it. Download Context Menu Tuner zip file, extract the zip file to get two folders titled x86 and x64, depending on your system type double-click on Context Menu Tuner executable file located in either x86 or x64 folder to run Context Menu Tuner.

Select a command in the left-pane that you would like to add, select the desktop, file or all context menu in the right-side, click Add button, and then click Add to selected item to add the option.

As we mentioned earlier in this guide, this tool lets you add an option as hidden item. New options should appear should appear in the context menu right away. That means that, you don’t need to restart or login again to see the newly added option.

To make a command hidden, first add the command to the right-side, select the command, and then check the option titled Show this item only if Shift key is pressed.

The other cool feature is that you can add file type specific commands to the context menu. For instance, you can add Slide Show option to only JPEG and PNG file types. That means, when you right-click on a PNG or JPEG file type, the context menu shows Slide show option.

The only downside of this tool is that it doesn’t let you remove existing program entries from the context menu. Nevertheless, it’s an excellent tool to enhance the context menu without cluttering it. Context Menu Tuner is compatible with all recent versions of Windows, including Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and the latest Windows 8.1.
