If you too are a Google Chrome user, then you know that the browser is constantly updated with new features and fixes.

  • Google is looking to stir things up a bit with their browser.Chrome could get some important UI changes really soon.Apparently, the focus here is on the browser’s download UI.No ETA has been given for it but it probably won’t be long.

The giant company has now thought about a new feature that is currently being prepared for the Canary and Dev channels first before they are rolled out to the public.

We could be looking at a totally new UI for active downloads, one that would pretty much resemble Edge’s current layout.

New changes coming to Google Chrome

For the time being, when you download anything using Chrome, the downloads are displayed at the bottom of the window during the entire progress and after it is completed.

As we previously mentioned, all this is soon about to change, according to reddit user Leopeva64-2. This new patch provides information about adding a download icon in the toolbar.

In addition, we might also be looking at these following changes:

  • Adding foundation for the download toolbar icon as part of the download UX redesign. This CL only tracks the state of downloads and produces a disappearing icon in the toolbar.
  • //Whether to use download bubble instead of download shelf.
  • //Download icon shown in the trusted area of the toolbar. Its lifetime is tied to that of its parent ToolbarView. The icon is made visible when downloads are in progress or when a download was initiated in the past 24 hours.

Clearly, Google has decided to shake things up a bit and will be moving the Chrome download UI to the browser’s toolbar instead of the bottom of the window.

Additionally, the traditional download icon will become a simple ring, where the filled ring will indicate the progress of the download.

All of these changes combined will make the download UI very similar to the one Microsoft uses for Edge, which already has a ring download icon in its toolbar.

But, seing how no further information about this exists, it remains to be seen if these changes will make their way to the Stable channel in their current state, if at all.
