Just before we thought of account hijacking had taken a pause, we came across Google CEO Sundai Pichai’s news about falling prey to the cyber criminals. Just to give you a glimpse, earlier this month Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Katy Perry and Kylie Jenner also had to compromise on their social media accounts.
Allegedly, a trio hacking group named as OurMine was able to hack Sundar Pichai’s Quora account on Monday. Once they got the access to Pichai’s personal account, they posted a question, “Is it possible to force my android app users of all version to update the app?”. This was an act to promote their Twitter timeline and website.
Reportedly, the group has said, “We hacked his Quora with a vulnerability on Quora”. On this Quora reacted, saying, “We are confident that Sundar Pichai’s account was not accessed via a vulnerability in Quora’s systems…This is consistent with past reports where OurMine exploited previous password leaks on other services to gain access to accounts on Twitter or Facebook. We also have no record of a report by OurMine pointing to a vulnerability.”
Who are OurMine?
OurMine is expected to be a teenager group, who have been hacking social media accounts of popular tech executives or famed celebrities. Unlike any other, the trio does so just to get fame all around.
What OurMine does once they have Hacked an Account…
Out of the blue, they do nothing to the account! Once they have hacked an account, they just post a video (basically their theme video) or their Twitter link. After this, they quickly give back the ownership of the account to the owner. And trust us, its real quick. In most cases, it’s been a day or two. Perhaps, these guys can be called ‘Virtuous Hackers’!
Intention Behind Hacking…
As if now OurMine has been hacking accounts to gain some popularity and a few more followers on Twitter. Henceforth, they don’t really do anything vicious to the accounts of renowned persons. Apart from this, virtuous hackers also seek to strengthen better security practices. Yeah! Now that’s a new way to apprise audience to tighten their social media account securities.
