Assume you are a “Sales Manager,” and you want to decide the sales cycle duration for different events. You are ready with your below data. The management asks you to present it in a neat and professional graphical presentation. But you do not know how to put it across. This example will guide you in preparing a graphical representation.

  • We must first create agenda data in the Excel sheet. We start by entering the day’s activity in the worksheet. Next, list each hour’s activity, including when is the start time, what is the topic, what is the duration time, and the end time. Only the “Start Time” and “Duration of the Activity” matter. The “End Time” is only for our reference. First, select “Start Time” (B2:B6) and insert a bar chart. Then, go to the “Insert” tab, and choose the “Stacked Bar” chart. As soon as the chart is inserted, it will look like the one below.After this, we need to tone more series to the chart. Now, right-click on the chart and follow the below steps.The “Select Data” pop-up will appear. Next, click on the “Add” option and select the “Duration” series. The below image will guide us in choosing the duration data series.For “Series name,” select duration, and “Series value,” choose data from C2:C6.In the “EDIT” option, select the “Vertical axis” values. The vertical axis is the task, activity, or project name.As a result, the chart should look similar to the one below. Format the X-axis, as shown in the below picture.
